Color-coding variables in complex math problems

Here’s an idea that adds a fun, visual element to break down multi-variable problems — like solving for a rocket’s speed — into manageable components. It can also help you build associations and retain information better for a test.

First, create a variable key, assigning a unique Post-it® Super Sticky Note color to each variable in the equation.

Find a flat surface, or use Post-it® Super Sticky Dry Erase Surface, and write out the equation using the correct color Post-it® Super Sticky Note for each variable.

As you solve each step in the equation, continue using the same colors for each variable so you can watch patterns and see where things intersect. Then when you’re ready to study for the final, you can see how the associations you’ve built have paid off.
