Driving efficiency in the office

The Q3 Office Excellence award winner, Carleen Muncy.

  • Office Excellence Award winner, Carleen Muncy: Driving efficiency in the office

The Office Excellence Award, presented by the Post-it® Brand, is a quarterly award given to an administrative professional who goes above and beyond to keep their office running smoothly, and improve their office environment. This quarter’s winner, Carleen Muncy, is a Sr. Administrative Assistant for Hampton Roads Transit in Norfolk, Virginia.

Hampton Roads Transit makes it easy for the residents of Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach to navigate their city. They provide bus, light rail, ferry and commuter services to the community. Carleen got her start there in 2010 after her daughter noticed a job listing that she knew her mother would be perfect for. With almost two decades of experience in senior services under her belt, Hampton Roads transit wasted no time hiring her.

Carleen’s work responsibilities change from day to day — being the go-to person in the office comes with great responsibility. She loves the challenges and tasks that each day brings. Not content with her existing skill set, and with the support and encouragement from her supervisors, Carleen passed her CAP and OM certification tests and is also the local area network coordinator for the IAAP Mid-Atlantic Branch.

As the person in charge of ordering supplies, Carleen helps keep her coworkers organized by stocking plenty of Post-it® Products. Post-it® Easel Pads can be found in every meeting room, 3x3 Post-it® Super Sticky Notes help bosses keep track of important notes, and she uses Post-it® Arrow Flags to keep things tidy on the bi-annual report.

Carleen not only works to make her coworker’s professional lives easier, she inspires them to make healthy changes in their personal lives, too. At the start of the New Year, she helped organize a contest that encouraged her peers to exercise and make sensible food choices. Group participants checked in with a combined weight loss of over a hundred pounds. Her hard work and great attitude were recognized when she was honored as the Employee of the Month in March 2015.

Personalized support and attention to detail are second nature to Carleen and it shows in everything she does. She enjoys helping people and she loves her job. We cannot thank her enough for sharing her story and working so hard to help run a more efficient office. Congratulations, Carleen!
